UEA's Mission Statement
The UEA's mission is to advance the cause of public education in partnership with others: strengthen the teaching profession, promote quality schools for Utah's children, and advocate the well-being of members.
Introductory Statement
After the voucher campaign in 2007, many of the leaders and staff of the UEA recognized the need for the Association to take a pro-active approach when dealing with critical public education issues. To accomplish this, the UEA Transformation Team was formed in 2008 and given the task to develop a set of recommendations to help the Association reach its four strategic goals, which are: .
UEA Strategic Goals
GOAL 1: Advance the Well-Being of Members
GOAL 2: Strengthen the Teaching Profession
GOAL 3: Engage in Meaningful Partnerships that
Promote Quality Public Schools
GOAL 4: Build Organizational Capacity
The Transformation Team developed 14 formal recommendations (http://www.utea.org/transformation/index.htm), all of which have been approved by the UEA Board of Directors. These recommendations represent a framework for the future of the Association.
Work on the implementation of these recommendations began in the spring of 2010.
Recommendations are tied to each of the four specific goal areas. The Association is developing desired outcomes or measures, as well as timeframes for achieving these goals.
Background and Philosophy
Focus on Outcomes
These Strategic Goals describe the desired future for UEA and outline the necessary incremental steps to reach that future.
Flexible Framework
The Goals will provide a flexible framework for activities at the state, local, and UniServ levels and will strengthen our collective efforts.
Full Integration
These Goals are intended to be fully integrated, meaning that each outcome influences every other outcome. For example, stronger membership numbers have a direct, positive effect on the ability to advocate for members.
