The UEA Committed to Meaningful Involvement of Ethnic Minority Members

The National Education Association and Utah Education Association have a strong commitment to the involvement of ethnic-minority members in all levels of Association work. NEA Bylaw 3-1(g) is one of several ways the Association encourages the involvement of ethnic-minority members at the state and local level. NEA Bylaw 3-1(g) provides that affiliates should have ethnic-minority delegate representation at the NEA Representative Assembly that is equal in proportion to the ethnic-minority population within the state.

The Utah Education Association’s Minority Involvement Plan (MIP) details numerous state policies, activities, and publications which are designed to involve ethnic-minority members in Association committees, events, decision making, and leadership positions.

All UEA local affiliates and members are urged to review the Minority Involvement Plan and become familiar with the Association’s goals in this regard. Each state’s 3-1(g) goal is based upon the 2000 United States Census Report of identified ethnic minority population in the state. Based on the 2000 Census, UEA’s 3-1(g) goal for 2003 is 15%.

Association officers and association representatives are sent a copy of the Minority Involvement Plan and information pamphlets outlining opportunities for involvement and offices open for election. These materials are also sent to all identified ethnic-minority members. Interested parties should contact Carol L. Cremer, Director of Member Advocacy, for further information. | Plan details - PDF Document
