Now in its 11th year, the National Education Association’s “Read Across America” program focuses the country’s attention on how important it is to motivate children to read. The nationwide reading celebration takes place each year on the birthday of beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. This year’s celebration is scheduled for Monday, March 3, 2008.
For “Read Across America” 2008, the Utah Education Association would like to honor the creativity of its members statewide by offering three $500 grants to UEA-affiliated local education associations (or UniServ units) and UEA members who develop outstanding “Read Across America” activities or events that focus attention on the importance of student literacy. Preference will be given to local education associations or UniServs that include multiple schools in their reading celebrations.
Grants will be awarded prior to “Read Across America” Day, March 3, 2008. Grant-related events or activities must take place between March 3 and March 14, 2008. Grant applications are due on or before February 15, 2008.
