Professional
Ethics for Educators
In the School
- Help to promote
faculty cooperation. Don't be a constant complainer. Compromises
must be made. Once a decision has been reached, accept it and follow
through.
- Avoid faculty-room
gossip. Gossip is gossip and is inappropriate whether it be about
students or other staff members. Gossip ultimately causes damage to
a person's reputation and may also influence future teachers to prejudge
a student unfairly. Don't be a part of it. Remember, parents are often
in the school visiting or helping and may hear the comments being made.
- Be willing to
share constructive ideas with your associates. Be a contributor,
a builder, a leader.
- Refrain from
shifting your obligations onto other teachers. Be fair about doing
your share of assignments. If it is your turn to do hall duty, do it!
- Conduct school
business through the appropriate channels. Learn the school operating
policies and follow the procedures as outlined.
- Avoid meddling
in the classroom affairs of fellow teachers.
- Be loyal to
your school and district. Be responsible in how you conduct yourself.
Let your students and associates remember you as someone who inspired
them, someone who helped to shape their destiny, and someone who taught
them by example! Be that teacher!
